Pride getting in the way of good common sense

Today, I want to pick up where we left off on Tuesday, and focus on pride.

How often do we let our pride get in the way. Throughout our lives, pride can often affect our relationships, our judgment, our decision making capability and can generally get in the way of good common sense!

Experienced players know when to walk away, don’t let your pride overtake your good sense and make you stay in the game, when in fact, if you thought about it rationally afterwards you would never have kept throwing money at the pot.

Sometimes its easier said than done. But you have to keep a check on your emotions all the time and ask yourself, “why am I doing this?…..” or “Am I being manipulated and tricked into this one?….”

What do you all think?

I usually keep a cool head at the beginning and usually am the one doing the manipulating. It’s as the stakes grow (and my ego) I start losing track of all reason and start calling all in’s when I know that’s a bad idea….maybe that’s just me :)

No, its not just you. I am learning to be more patient. The more I practice at it, the farther I get along in the game. I just started playing poker around this time last year and I will tell you, I was always the first or second out of a game. I now am capable of hitting top twenty(when I am very patient)in freerolls and placing top three and even winning sit n goes. Big improvement over my previous attempts. I am so aggressive and it goes against my nature to lay down a good hand. I always think someone is bluffing me out of my hand, but, i TRY to imagine what Brian mentioned. How am I going to reflect on this? Ist this really the hand I want to go out on? Is it worth it? I have alot, ALOT, to learn but the patience and continually checking myself before I act has help me alot.

I find that sometimes walking away (or sitting out) for a while improves my game. Coming back refreshed and seeing some of the more aggressive players gone often helps too.
